Therefore, separating starch from cassava is a simple process, easy to do and does not have as much trouble as producing corn starch, wheat starch or other cereal starches.

This process can be applied in households, as well as on a large production scale.
The following is a manual process for separating starch at a household scale.
The cassava roots are washed with water, then a knife is used to peel them.
Next they are manually scraped into a paste on a grater. (This scraper is just a sheet of tin or a sheet of soft iron punched with nails so that there are sharp edges on one side)
Then the paste is put into a cloth tied to the four corners and washed vigorously with water (by hand).
Finally, the starch is dried and the starch milk is collected in a bucket.
When the starch granules have settled, we decant the water above, the moist starch is broken up and dried in a tray or in a bamboo basket.
So we have completed the process of separating starch from Tapioca tubers (Cassava Root).
This simple process is used in many rural areas in tropical countries.
